Yes - However, you only need to be able to swim to a very basic standard.
All you need to do is chose an event you’d like to join and send us an email to tell us you would like to join in. Turn up at the venue with your trunks, towel, shower kit etc. if you have a wetsuit, tow float and a brightly coloured swim hat bring them too. Sometimes the water is a bit cold and you might prefer to wear a wetsuit. If you haven’t got a wetsuit, tow float or hat let us know in advance and we can lend you them. You will then meet the team, have a quick safety brief and then split into small groups depending on ability. It’s then just a case of taking the plunge and experiencing the magic of open water swimming. We swim at the slowest person’s pace and keep together. It’s not a race, it’s an team experience. When we have finished, showered and changed we have a coffee and a catch up together before heading off. .
It doesn't matter at all. we will split into ability groups and swim at the pace of the slowest person. Its not about competing, its about swimming as a team.
You will feel fantastic when you are swimming as a group and you will feel elated after the session. It may be a little cold at times but the physical and mental benefits of open water swimming are enormous. You will also meet new people and make friends with likeminded individuals. Take the plunge, we promise you will be glad you did!
Only 5 Pounds each which is payable to the Water Sports Centre but as we raise funds for the Club, we hope to be able to pay these entry fees for everyone who attends.
If you wish to wear a wetsuit you can hire one for 5 Pounds from the Water Sports Centre and we will supply a tow float free of charge. Wetsuits are required in late autumn and winter and early spring. We hope to raise funds to buy wetsuits to lend to swimmers for free.
Yes, we supply safety equipment and provide a safety brief before each swim. There are sometimes safety boats at the water sports centre and each group will have a strong swimmer in charge who will swim with a larger tow float.
We get changed and meet at a local cafe for a coffee and a chat. The beauty of a shared experience is that you will have lots in common and lots to talk about. You will meet new people and have fun!
